How to Soft Mod a PSP Slim Without a Pandora Battery

A software mod of the Sony PSP can either be done using a Pandora battery or without one. The Pandora battery makes modifying the PSP simple as it accesses the PSP service menu. From the service menu, new firmware can be installed directly onto the PSP. When not using a Pandora battery, you can use the "ChickHEN" method of modifying the PSP Slim. This requires only the PSP and the ChickHEN installation files.

Things You'll Need

  • PSP Firmware 5.03
  • ChickHEN installation file
  • Computer memory card adapter

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the PSP memory card into the computer memory card adapter. Click the "Open folder to view files" option when the Autorun window comes up. A list of folders on the PSP memory card comes up.

    • 2

Open the "PSP" folder and the "Game" folder inside of that. Click the "New Folder" option and type in "UPDATE."

    • 3

Download the "ChickHEN Mod" for the PSP from the developer's website and right-click the "PSP" memory card icon on the desktop. Click "Paste" from the context menu to save it onto the PSP memory card.

    • 4

Right-click the "ChickHEN Mod" file on the PSP memory card and click the "Extract All" option to decompress all of the files inside the ChickHEN Mod file. Click "Yes to all" when asked if you want to replace files.

    • 5

Unplug the PSP memory card from the computer memory card adapter and insert it into the PSP card reader. Go into the "Photos" section of the PSP menu.

    • 6

Highlight the "Memory Stick" sub heading and press the "X" button on the game controller.

    • 7

Press the "X" button again when the "Egg" appears on the screen. This loads the mod and installs the custom firmware onto your PSP. A green light appears on the screen to verify the mod has been installed.
