How to Create a PSP ROM for Emulator

JPCSP is an open-source java-based PSP emulator for the computer. PSP ROMs for this emulator are going to be ISO images for PSP games and Eboot files for homebrew applications. Creating a PSP game ISO works by changing the VSH menu settings, then directly downloading the image from a PSP running custom firmware to a computer. Placing the ISO into the "umdimages" folder of the JPCSP emulator folder allows the game to load when the game image is selected under the "File" menu.

Scroll down to "USB device" and select "UMD disc," then scroll to "UMD ISO mode" and select "Sony NP9660." Press the select button to exit the VSH menu.

    • 3

Connect the PSP to the computer with a USB cable. On the PSP, scroll to "Settings," select "USB" and press "X." When connected, a window will pop up on the computer screen with a copy of the game labeled "UMD9660."

Drag the "UMD9660" image to the desktop and wait for the files to transfer to the computer. Rename the image with the game title and the ISO is complete. When finished copying, disconnect the PSP from the computer.

Open the JPCSP folder, drag the image file into the "UMD images" folder and start the JPCSP emulator. Click "File/Load UMD." Select the newly installed game image and click "Load." Click "Run" to start the game.
