Place the PSP on a table so that the power switch at the lower right is closest to you. Push the power button up and hold it there while at the same time pressing in on the firing trigger located against the upper-right edge of the PSP. Release both the trigger and the button when the recovery memory appears on the LCD screen.
Connect a USB cable from the USB port on the PSP to a USB port on a computer. Select the USB mode from the list of choices on the PSP's screen, using the direction pad. Press the "X" button on the right-hand side of the PSP.
Double-click on the icon of the PSP that has appeared on the desktop to open a window. Double-click on the "Game" icon inside the window to open it.
Download a PSP downgrading program, for example PSP Downgrader or PSP Downgrade package. Double-click the file that has been downloaded to decompress it to a folder. Double-click the folder so that its window opens on screen. Change the file that ends in ".eboot" to ".updatepbp" but without the quotes. Drag the file from inside the window to the "Game" window to copy it.
Right-click inside the "Games" folder. Select "New Folder" from the pop-up menu and name the folder "RECOVERY" but without the quotes. Double-click the folder so that its window opens on screen. Drag the rest of the files from the downloaded folder into the window to copy them.
Select USB mode and press the "X" button on the PSP. Remove the USB cable from the PSP and from the computer.
Select "ROM" from the list of choices on the PSP's screen and press the "X" button. Select "RECOVERY" from the list of choices now presented. Press the "X" button. Select "eboot" from the choices presented to the right of "RECOVERY." Press the "X" button.
Let the PSP reset itself. Press the "X" button when instructed to. Let the PSP reboot. Push up on the power switch and hold it for five seconds after the text on the PSP screen is no longer scrolling. Release the switch so that the PSP can reboot back to a normal, or "unbricked," state.
