If My PSP Froze, How Do I Reset It?

When electronic gadgets freeze, it usually means the random access memory (RAM) becomes overworked and has no room left to cache anything. The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) has a limited amount of RAM it to use when processing games and other applications. When all of the PSP's 32 megabytes (MB) of RAM are used, the PSP tends to freeze. Unfreezing it requires you to reset the PSP. If you were playing a game on the PSP and did not save your data, you will need to restart the game from a previous save.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the power button on the right of the PSP in until the unit turns off.

    • 2

Turn the PSP back on and it should boot back into its operating system (OS). This is the first measure you should take. This overrides the PSP's power. If that does not work, move on.

    • 3

Turn the PSP over onto its LCD screen and press the "Battery Eject" button. This pops the battery cover off.

    • 4

Pull the battery out of the PSP. This kills the power and resets it. Place the battery back in and make sure the part of the battery that breaks the rectangular shape is up and to the right when inserted.

    • 5

Turn the PSP back on and the PSP will boot into its OS and will not be frozen again.
