How to Make Action Replay Recognize PSP

Action Replay by Datel is a "real time game enhancer" for the PlayStation Portable. It works on the same principles as the GameShark for Nintendo Game Boy, except instead of using a cartridge, you install the program onto your PSP. By properly installing Action Replay and letting it run in demo mode, you can make the program recognize your PSP so you can play your games with it.

Things You'll Need

  • Action Replay installation CD
  • PC
  • PSP with USB cable and 3MB memory stick

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Action Replay installation CD into your PC. It will start to run automatically. If it does not, click the Windows symbol in the lower left corner of your computer screen. Click "My Computer" and then double-click on the CD-ROM drive. Double-click the CD-ROM icon to run it. Select the language by clicking the English icon.

    • 2

Remove the UMD disc from your PSP, if there is one currently in it. Plug the PSP USB cable into the PSP USB port. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on your PC. Turn on your PSP. When the crossbar menu appears on the PSP screen, go to "Settings" and select "USB Connection."

    • 3

Watch your PC screen. A message will appear telling you that it detects a removable disk drive. Take note of what letter drive it tells you it is. The Action Replay installation program will detect the PSP. When this happens, a dialogue box will appear on your PC screen asking you to confirm that it has detected the correct drive letter. If it does not, click the "I'll Select My PSP Drive" tab. Click "Next" to select the correct drive letter. Click "Yes this is my PSP drive" to confirm it.

    • 4

Exit USB mode on your PSP. Go to "Game." Go to "Memory Stick" and press X to select it, then select "Action Replay." Let Action Replay run in "Demo" mode once you have selected it so that it can get your PSP's ID number and recognize your PSP when you go to use it.

    • 5

Exit the Action Replay program. Put your PSP back into USB mode as before by selecting "Settings" and then "USB Connection." Watch your PC screen, the dialogue box stating that it has detected a removable hard drive will appear as before.

    • 6

Watch for a dialogue box to appear on your PC screen asking you to enter your Action Replay License Key. This can be found on the Action Replay manual or was provided when you purchased the Action Replay program online. Enter the license key and click "Next."

    • 7

Disconnect your PSP when a dialogue box appears telling you to disconnect it. Exit USB mode. Turn off your PSP. Wait one minute, then turn it back on. When the crossbar menu appears, go to "Game," select "Memory Stick" by pressing "X" and select "Action Replay." The Action Replay program will load on your PSP. Scroll through the list of games that appears on the Action Replay Game list to see which games are installed on your Action Replay. When you find your game, press "X" to select it. If the game isn't on the list, you will need to update your Action Replay.

    • 8

Download an update for your Action Replay from the Action Replay website. Visit the website with your PSP Web browser, and save the file to the "PSP/COMMOM" folder on the memory stick. Run Action Replay as before and the update will install; you should be able to find your game on the list.
