How to Unbrick a Fully Bricked PSP With a TA88v3 Motherboard

PlayStation Portable (PSP) enthusiasts are able to modify the way the handheld works by exploiting defects in the operating system. A modification that is not done right will result in any PSP, such as the one that has a TA88v3 motherboard inside, to cease functioning (aka become "bricked"). To restore the PSP, reactivate the basic operating system protected in memory. You will need a special battery and memory card purchased from a video game supply store or video game modification shop. The PSP will not have to be physically altered in any way to once again function normally.

Things You'll Need

  • Hand towel
  • Pandora-type battery
  • Magic Memory stick-type memory card

Instructions

    • 1

Release the disk door latch at the upper edge of the PlayStation Portable (PSP) that has the TA88v3 motherboard inside. Pull the optical disc out of the disc slot and close the disc door. If there is no optical disc inside the disc drive, bypass this step.

    • 2

Place a hand towel on a table. Place the PSP face down on the towel. Rotate the PSP so that the battery compartment is facing left.

    • 3

Open the battery compartment lid. Pull out the battery. Place the lid and battery aside.

    • 4

Insert the Pandora-type battery into the battery compartment in the same manner as the original battery was inserted. Place the lid back on the battery compartment. Turn the PSP right side up.

    • 5

Line up the contacts at one end of the "Magic Memory Stick" memory card with the memory slot on the side of the PSP. Push the memory card into the slot until it clicks into place. Do nothing until you see some white text appear on the LCD screen on its own.

    • 6

Press the "X" button on the PSP's right side. Select "Yes" from the "Agreement" screen, using the direction keys on the left side. Press the "X" button. Do nothing until the LCD screen goes black. Remove the memory card from the slot. Turn the PSP over on the towel.

    • 7

Open the battery compartment lid. Remove the Pandora battery and place it aside. Reinsert the original battery into the battery compartment and close the lid. Turn the PSP right side up.

    • 8

Press up on the power switch at the lower right edge of the PSP. Release the switch. The PSP will now boot up normally.
