How to Unzip & Install Games to PSP 1001

Free PSP games are often downloaded from Sony in zip files, which are compressed files that can be downloaded more quickly than standard files. The first release of the PSP, the PSP 1001, uses memory sticks as all the other forms of the PSP do. You can install these games directly from your computer by unzipping the files and inserting the memory stick.

  Right-click the zipped PSP game that is being installed on the PSP 1001. Click the "Extract All" option from the context menu that comes up.

  Select a place to extract the PSP game to on the next window and click "OK." A new window comes up with the extracted game file inside.

  Insert the PSP 1001's memory stick into the computer's card reader; an auto-run window will come up. Click the "Open folder to view files" option to see the contents of the PSP 1001 memory stick.

  Open the "PSP" folder on the PSP memory stick. Inside you see a "GAME" folder. This is where games are installed to.

  Drag the extracted game file into the "GAME" folder; the game will be automatically installed onto the PSP 1001.

  Pull the PSP memory stick out of the computer's card reader and insert it back into the PSP 1001. The game is now on the PSP main menu.
