How to Put a Mod on a PlayStation Portable 3001

When it comes to modifying the Sony PSP, the PSP 3000 series has always been the toughest version to crack. Other PSP versions had very weak security, which made installing custom firmware on them very simple. Custom firmware is firmware other than Sony's that is installed on the PSP. There is one way you can install custom firmware on the PSP 3000 series, and that is through a PSP firmware version 5.03 exploit.

ChickHEN R2 file

Instructions

  Download Sony firmware version 5.03 and the ChickHEN R2 release from the developer's websites.

  Connect the PSP 3000 series to your computer and copy the 5.03 update file into the "Update" folder on the PSP memory stick. To locate the "Update" folder, open the "PSP" folder and look inside for a "Game" folder. Open the "Game" folder and inside of that is the "Update" folder.

  Disconnect the PSP from the computer. Select "System Update" and "Update via Storage Media." This upgrades the PSP 3000 series firmware to 5.03.

  Select the "Settings" option on the PSP 3000 series main menu and select "Restore Default Settings." Select the "UMD Auto-Start" function in the PSP settings until it displays "Off." Connect the PSP 3000 series to your computer.

  Right-click the "ChickHEN R2" file you downloaded and click "Extract all." This unpacks the file archive and all of the files inside are presented on the computer screen.

  Copy the "h.bin" file directly onto the PSP 3000's memory stick. Copy the "ChickHEN" folder into the "PSPPHOTO" folder on the PSP memory stick.

  Disconnect the PSP device and reboot it by holding the power down for a few seconds until the screen turns off, then press the power button again to turn it back on.

  Select the "Photo" option on the PSP 3000 series menu and select the "Memory Stick" icon. Wait until the ChickHEN settings appear. Press "X" to open the "ChickHEN" folder on the PSP. The PSP screen flashes and reboots into custom firmware ChickHEN. The PSP 3000 series mod is complete.
