How to Downgrade From 3.80 Version

PlayStation Portable (PSP) firmware version 3.80 comes with many new features and enhancements, including a radio application. If your PSP is not operating well with the new firmware or you just want to go back to a previous version, downgrading the PSP might be necessary. The service tool for the PSP allows you to do this. The service tool battery has many different names such as Pandora and Datel. All of them work exceptionally well.

Things You'll Need

  • Service tool battery
  • Magic memory stick (comes with the service tool)

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PSP and insert the magic memory stick into the PSP's memory card reader.

    • 2

Disconnect the PSP from the charger, if necessary. Insert the service tool battery into the PSP's battery compartment. The PSP turns on automatically. A menu is displayed with two options. Each option has a button symbol, an "X" or an "O," next to it. The first option is to downgrade. The second option is to shut the device off.

    • 3

Press the button that coincides with the "Downgrade" option. This is usually the "X" button, but some companies make it the "O" button. If you press the wrong button, the PSP will simply turn off. If that happens, remove the service tool and insert it again. The downgrade screen will appear and read "Downgrade in process."

    • 4

Press the "X" button to turn the PSP off when the downgrade completes. The screen will read "Complete" when the downgrading is finished.

    • 5

Insert the default PSP battery and remove the MMS from the PSP memory card reader. Turn the PSP on. The PSP is now running the downgraded firmware.
