How Can I Tell if My PSP Is a 3001?

The Sony PSP has come in many different guises since its release in 2005. The 3001 version features better on-screen color than its predecessors and also offers access to the PlayStation Network where gamers can download original PlayStation games to enjoy while on the move. Visual differences to the untrained eye can be difficult to detect, so it is best to locate the actual model number found in the battery compartment to ensure you have the correct model.

     Turn over your PSP in your hand so the screen is facing downwards. Press down the battery cover release button that is located on the lefthand edge of the unit.

     Lift up the cover while keeping your finger pressed on the release button.

     Lift out the battery underneath the cover using your fingernail or a screwdriver.

   • 4

     Locate the model number on the surface beneath where the battery is housed; you will be able to tell if your PSP is a 3001.
