How to Fix a PSP Slim That Stopped Reading Games

As with all electronic devices, the PSP Slim made by Sony can become corrupted if not updated properly. A software update is performed by downloading the necessary files from Sony and selecting the "Update System" option from the PSP menu. If at any point in the update process the PSP loses power, the PSP's system files will become corrupted and the PSP will not be able to read games. To fix a PSP Slim that has a corrupted system, you need to reinstall the PSP software. This can only be done when the PSP is in developer mode.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the power cable from the Sony PSP if you are charging the PSP. Locate the battery door on the back of the PSP and push the small button on the door to pop it off.

    • 2

Grab the top of the battery with your fingernail and pull out the top of the battery first to unlatch it from the PSP. Locate the memory card expansion slot on the left side of the Sony PSP.

    • 3

Use your fingernail to gently open the small memory card door and push the memory card in until it clicks and pops out. Pull the memory card out.

    • 4

Insert the Majic memory stick into the memory card expansion slot and insert the Pandora battery into the PSP's battery slot on the back. The Pandora battery will cause the PSP to boot immediately and the PSP will present a menu with only a few lines of text.

    • 5

Push the "X" key on the PSP to reflash, or reinstall, the PSP's software. This will fix any corrupted files that may have occurred during the update process. The PSP will shut off when the reflash completes.

    • 6

Remove the Pandora battery and Majic memory stick from the PSP in the same manner as you did with the normal battery and memory card. Insert the normal battery and memory card.

    • 7

Hold the "Power" button in and the PSP will turn back on. Place a game into the UMD slot with the label facing outward and select the game from the PSP's menu to begin playing.
