DIY Pandora Battery

The Sony PSP, or PlayStation Portable is able to emulate software once the handheld console has been soft modded with the Pandora battery. The Pandora battery can be purchased, or you can format your own battery and memory card to be used as a Pandora battery to soft-mod your Sony PSP. Once your PSP is soft modded, you can run home-brew software, play emulators and much more.

Things You'll Need

  • WinRAR archiving software (available online)
  • Sony PSP USB computer cable
  • Magic memory stick (at least 512 MB )
  • Mini USB or memory card reader
  • Unbricker software (available online)
  • Partition Mover (available online)

Instructions

      Create a magic memory stick if you have a non-bricked Sony PSP. You can skip making a magic memory stick if you have a bricked PSP. Visit the WinRAR website and click on the WinRAR download link that applies to your computer system. Once you have downloaded the file, click on the setup file to install the WinRAR program.

      Connect your Sony PSP USB computer cable to the USB port on your PSP and connect the other end of the cable to a vacant USB port on your computer. Power your PSP on by pressing and holding the "Power" button. When the PSP is on, go to the "USB Mode" so that the PSP can be connected to your computer.

      Click on "Start," "My Computer" and find your PSP. Once you have found your PSP, you will need to format it by right-clicking on it and clicking on "Format." Choose to format the memory stick in the PSP.

      Visit the PSP Hacks website and scroll down the page until you see "Universal Unbricker for PSP Slim &Fat" and look for the "Universal Unbricker for PSP Slim &Fat version 2" link next to the "Download" text. Extract the "Universal Unbricker" contents and look for the folders "PSP," "kd" and "registry." There should also be three eboot files named "150.pbp," "340.pbp" and "371.pbp." The last file is a bin file labeled "msipl.bin."

      Select all of the files by pressing and holding down the "CTRL" and "A" keys to select all of the files within the Unbricker folder. Navigate to the Sony PSP's drive and press and hold the "CTRL" and "V" keys to copy the files into the PSP directory.

      Create a magic memory stick using a bricked PSP by inserting the memory stick into a mini USB or memory card reader and follow the above steps of transferring the files from the Unbricker download to the PSP directory.

      Visit the Rapid Share website and click on the "Slow Download" button to save the partition mover download to your computer. Extract the files to your computer.

      Look for the "msinst" folder and copy the folder by holding down the "CTRL" and "C" keys. Navigate to the "C" drive on your computer and press the "CTRL" and "V" keys to copy the folder to the "C" drive of your computer. Afterward, click on "Start," "My Computer" and note the drive letter of your PSP on your computer.

      Click on "Start" and "Run." Type in "cmd" and click on the "OK" button to run the command prompt. Once you enter the command promt on your computer, your PSP should display a black and silverish-white screen. Type in "cd C:\msinst" and press the "Enter" button. Afterward, type in "msinst ? msipl.bin" where the "?" is your Sony PSP drive letter and press the "Enter" key. Remember to use an uppercase drive letter when typing it into the command prompt. Select "Y" when prompted for the first option and press the "Enter" key on the second option. After you have finished this task, you will have completed creating a magic memory stick and moved the partitions.

      Power down your Sony PSP and unplug the USB cable. Unplug the other end of the USB cable from the USB port on your computer. Take the battery cover off and take the battery out. You have now successfully made a Pandora battery. Place the battery back into your PSP. The Pandora battery is used in conjunction with the magic memory stick to mod the PSP.
