How to Increase the Memory of a PSP 32MB Memory Stick

The Sony PlayStation Portable is a handheld game console, and as of publication date, there are four different models available. Games and movies can be played on three of them --- the PSP 1000, PSP 2000 and PSP 3000 --- by either using the UMD (Universal Media Disc) drive or downloading media onto the memory stick. These PSP models use the Sony Memory Stick format for removable storage, with capacity as small as 32MB. Those who want more storage space for games, movies and other media can swap out their old Sony Memory Stick for a larger one.

Instructions

  1. For the PSP 1000 Series

    • 1

Open the memory stick slot cover on the right side of the PSP 1000's back by putting your fingernail into the small slot on the right side and pulling the cover toward you.

    • 2

Press the installed memory stick inward; it will unlock from the slot and pop out. Pull the memory stick out.

    • 3

Insert the new memory stick into the PSP 1000. Be sure that the slot indicator arrow is on the bottom and facing toward the device. Push the memory stick in firmly to lock it in place.

    • 4

Close the memory stick slot cover.

For the PSP 2000 and PSP 3000 Series

    • 5

Open the memory stick slot cover on the left side of the PSP 2000 or PSP 3000 by putting your fingernail in the small slot on either side of the slot cover and pulling outward. The slot cover is held in place by flexible plastic tabs and can be bent outward for a better access angle on the memory stick.

    • 6

Press the installed memory stick down to unlock it from the slot. It will pop out slightly, and you can remove the memory stick by pulling it out.

    • 7

Insert the new memory stick into the slot. The slot indicator arrow should be on the top and facing toward the device. Press the memory stick in firmly to lock it into the slot.

    • 8

Close the memory stick cover and press firmly to click it into place.
