How to Use PSP's Internet Everywhere

The Sony PSP has built-in Wi-Fi capabilities that allow you to go on the Internet anywhere you can find a wireless network to connect to. Many establishments like restaurants or hotels offer free wireless service to customers, and these so-called "hotspots" are easy to access with your PSP. Browsing the Internet on your PSP is not as fast as on a computer but is an easy way to quickly check your email or catch up on the news.

  Push the wireless LAN switch of the PSP upward so that it is in the "On" position. On the original PSP, the switch is located on the bottom left-hand side of the device. On later models, it is located at the top of the device.

  Start the PSP and scroll left on the crossbar until you reach the "Settings" menu. Scroll down until you reach "Network Settings," then press the "X" button.

  Highlight "Infrastructure Mode," then press "X." Highlight "New Connection," then press "X."

  Highlight "Scan," then press "X." Your PSP will scan all wireless networks in the area and display a list, along with the signal strength and security of these networks. Highlight the network you want to connect to and press "X."

  Press right until you reach the "WLAN Security Setting" menu. If the network you have selected to connect to is a free Wi-Fi hotspot, highlight "None," then press "X." If you are trying to use the connection from your own wireless router or one you have permission to access, select the appropriate security setting from the list. The correct setting is the one that was listed along with the signal strength when you scanned for a network.

  Enter the security key, if the network you are trying to access requires one and you have it. The WEP key, for example, is printed on a sticker that is underneath the router. WPA keys are found on the "Settings" page of the modem or router.

  Highlight "Easy" from the "Address Settings" menu, then press "X." Enter a name for the connection. If it is a Wi-Fi hotspot at a cafe or restaurant you frequently visit, you can give it the name of the establishment, or if it is your own router you can call it "Home."

  Press the "X" button on the PSP to save the settings. Press "X" again after the save is complete to test the connection. Once the test is done successfully, you are ready to connect to the Internet with your PSP.

  Scroll right on the crossbar until you reach the "Network" option. Scroll down to "Internet Browser." Enter the web address of the site you want to visit into the "Address" bar at the top of the screen. Your PSP will connect to the Internet and you will be online.
