How to Make IR Shell Skins

IR Shell skins are custom themes that can be applied to your PSP system to change the appearance of the menus. By using image manipulation software such as GIMP you can create your very own IR Shell skins. By downloading a template for your custom skin you can easily choose and position your own icons and change your PSP wallpaper to suit your wants or interests. By following a few simple steps you will be on your way to creating your own personal PSP skin.

GIMP or other image manipulation software

Instructions

Edit the Icons

  Download and extract the "Stainless" template from the zip folder (see Resources for link).

  Run GIMP or another image manipulation software such as Photoshop or Google Picasa by double clicking on the desktop icon.

  Click "File" then "Open" and select the file "stainless.psd" from the Stainless folder.

  Click on the eye symbol next to all the layers except the layer titled "Menu Outline" so that this is the only layer visible.

  Right click on the layers panel and click "Create New Layer." Adjust the dimensions of the layer to change the size of your icons. For a standard size icon use 60 pixels width and 40 pixels height. Give the new layer an appropriate name and select "Transparent" from the "Layer Fill Type" options.

  Find the icon that you want to use or alternatively you can use your chosen image manipulation program to create your own. Once you have found or created your icon, right click on it and choose "Copy" then select the layer you want to paste it on and click "Edit" then "Paste."

  Re-size your icon image by using the four-way arrow symbol to shrink or enlarge the icon to fit the dimensions of the layer. Once you have adjusted the size, locate the new layer called "Floating Selection (Pasted Image)," right click on it and choose "Anchor Layer."

  Drag the icon to the square where you want it to appear, before repeating the process for the remaining icons.
Edit the Wallpaper

  Right click in the layers menu and select "Create New layer." Leave the dimensions to the standard size of 480 width and 272 height.

  Drag the wallpaper layer to the bottom of the list of layers in the "Layers" panel so that all of the other layers appear on top of it.

  Find the wallpaper you want to use or create your own using GIMP.

  Copy and paste your chosen wallpaper into GIMP onto the layer you created for your new wallpaper

  Save the changes you have made to the template, before placing them in a folder on your PSP under "ms0:/IRSHELL/SKINS." Apply and select your skin by choosing "iRshell Configurator" then "Skins" and follow the onscreen instructions.
