My Metal Gear Disc 1 Eboot Is Not Working

If you modified your Sony PSP to play Eboot files that you made from your PlayStation game discs, you know that running Eboots isn't an exact science. Several ways exist in which an Eboot can fail to run, and even if it's a popular game such as "Metal Gear Solid" (known among fans as "Metal Gear"), there's no guarantee that your copy will be correctly formatted or run as it should. But a few troubleshooting steps can solve your Ebooting problem.

Things You'll Need

  • CD-ripping program with ISO authoring function (CloneCD or ImgBurn)
  • Eboot-conversion program (PSX2PSP or Impaler)
  • Original "Metal Gear Solid" game disc
  • Methylated spirits
  • Lens cleaning cloth
  • PlayStation emulation program such as pSX or ePSXe

Instructions

    • 1

Update the software you use to make ISO files, and convert these to Eboot files. Some popular examples include ImgBurn and PSX2PSP, the latest versions of which can be downloaded from "Resources."

    • 2

Update the software your PSP uses to run Eboot files, as outdated software often does not run with the latest firmware or files created in newer versions of the Eboot conversion software. Visit your Eboot program's homepage to download the latest version of the software and install it on your PSP.

    • 3

Clean your "Metal Gear Solid" game disc with methylated spirits and a lens or screen cleaning cloth. Any dirt or marks on the disc can create a corrupted ISO file, which in turn results in an Eboot file without all the data required to run on your PSP.

    • 4

Insert the first "Metal Gear Solid" disc into the CD or DVD drive of your computer, and launch the updated version of the software you use to make ISO files. Choose "Make ISO" or "Rip Disc Image" from the "File" menu, and burn an updated ISO of the "Metal Gear Solid" disc image.

    • 5

Launch your newly created "Metal Gear Solid" ISO file in a PlayStation emulator such as ePSXe or pSX to ensure the file works correctly. If so, convert the file to an Eboot using your updated conversion software. Transfer the newly created, working Eboot file to your PSP using your Eboot software.
