How to Troubleshoot and Repair a PSP

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) was released in 2005 as the next great hand-held gaming device. The PSP offered many features that quickly helped it shoot to the top of the sales charts. Like other devices, the PSP can become "bricked" from improper use. A bricked device is one whose motherboard is corrupted. Repairing a PSP should fix any major software problems you may be experiencing.

  • Jigkick battery
  • Magic Memory Stick (MMS)

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove the PSP's normal battery and memory stick, turning the PSP off in the process.

      Insert the Magic Memory Stick into the PSP's memory stick slot. Insert the jigkick battery into the PSP's battery slot. The PSP will turn on automatically and be in service mode.

      Press the "X" button to reinstall your PSP's software to the PSP using the MMS. The MMS comes with the necessary files to install to the PSP.

    • 4

      Press the "X" button again to shut down the PSP and reinsert the normal battery. Turn the PSP on and it will now be fully functional.
