How to Connect PSP Internet to Your Home Router

On top of playing the Sony UMD disc games, the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) can act as an MP3 player, play movies and even access the Internet. Before the PSP can go online, you must make sure your router is both wireless and has been enabled to allow other devices to connect to it.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open your web browser.

    • 2

Type your IP address into the address bar. This will take you to your router's setup page. If you do not know your IP address, click the link under Resources.

    • 3

      Choose "Wireless Settings."

    • 4

Select the "Broadcast SSID" option. Depending on your router, this may be under "Wireless Access Point," "Authentication" or something similar.

    • 5

      Turn on your PSP.

    • 6

Switch the "WLAN" button at the top of the device to the right. This will allow the PSP to connect wirelessly.

    • 7

Go to "Settings" in the PSP menu. Select "Network Settings."

    • 8

      Choose "Infrastructure Mode."

    • 9

      Choose "New Connection."

    • 10

      Select "Scan."

    • 11

Select your wireless router. The PSP will display a list of SSIDs; your router will most likely have the highest signal strength. The next screen will allow you to change the name of the SSID on the PSP, but skip it.

    • 12

Choose the security setting that the router has. Once that is complete, you will have to input your router's security password if it has one.

    • 13

      Select "Easy" under "Address Settings."

    • 14

Press the right button on the D-pad until you get to a screen that asks you to save your settings. Press "X" to do so.

    • 15

Test the connection. If everything was set up properly, the PSP will tell you the test succeeded.

    • 16

Press "O" until you get to the main PSP menu again.

    • 17

Go to "Network," and select "Internet Browser" to access the Internet through your home computer's router.
