How to Fix the Cannot Copy File When the Parameter Is Incorrect Error for PSP

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) is not only a hand-held gaming system, but it is also a full-feature entertainment center. Supporting music and movies, the PSP uses memory sticks to store data. When transferring data from your computer to your memory stick, you may encounter errors relating to incorrect parameters. This is typically a result of transferring a file larger than 4 GB to a memory card that is formatted with the FAT file system, as opposed to FAT 32, which supports larger files.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the PSP USB cable to both the PSP and your computer. Turn on the PSP and wait for your computer to detect it.

    • 2

Copy all data from your PSP's memory stick to a folder on your computer by selecting everything on the memory stick and dragging it into the folder.

    • 3

Disconnect the USB cable from the PSP.

    • 4

Navigate to the "Settings" selection on the PSP's dashboard. The "Settings" menu can be found on the far left side of the dashboard options.

    • 5

Select "System Settings" from the "Settings" menu, then "Format Memory Stick," and select "Yes" when asked to confirm your selection. This will format your memory stick with the FAT32 file structure, which will allow for more flexibility when using the memory card.

Reconnect your PSP to your computer via the PSP's USB cable. Transfer the data you backed up in Step 2 back to your PSP by selecting all files, then dragging and dropping them into the memory stick folder.
