How to Fix a Nintendo DS 08 Defective Game

The Nintendo DS is a portable video game device that uses SD cards to store its games. Like its competitor, the Sony PSP, DS firmware is updated periodically to update the system's capabilities and ability to play newer DS games. If you have recently purchased a game and it displays an error when you start to play it, you need to update your DS prior to playing it.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the "System Settings" icon on the Nintendo DS homescreen. The icon looks like a wrench.

    • 2

Press the "Right" directional pad on the left of the DS to go to the next screen. You will see numbers on the top right corner of the screen. Change to verify that you have moved on to the next menu. Stop when it says "4." Alternatively, you can press the "4" in the top right corner of the screen to go to that menu.

    • 3

Press the "System Update" entry on the new menu screen. This will have your DS check to see if there are any new firmware updates available for your DS.

    • 4

Press "Update" when the new firmware is displayed. Press "Next" to verify that you want to update your Nintendo DS. Agree to the terms and conditions by pressing the "Agree" button on the screen. The update will start and your DS firmware will be updated.

    • 5

Insert the DS game into the DS game slot and start the game from the DS main menu. It will now work with the firmware.
