Why Won't My PSP Headset Work?

Certain games and applications for the Sony PSP allow you to use an external headset to communicate with others. If you're playing an online game, for example, you can hear and speak with the people you're playing with via this headset. If your PSP headset isn't working, look at the settings of your system in order to figure out what is causing this issue.

Verify that the game you are playing is actually compatible with the PSP headset. Not all PSP games, and not even all online-compatible PSP games, work with the PSP headset. If your game features functionality that lets you use the headset, it will be listed on the box the game came in and in the manual that came in the box. If the game is not compatible, the headset won't work during the game.

Check the connection between your PSP headset and the Sony PSP. The cable that is attached to the PSP headset plugs directly into the headphone jack on the PSP in exactly the same way that a regular pair of headphones will. If the PSP headset isn't plugged into this jack on the PSP itself, the headset can't be expected to work because it isn't connected to your system.

Make sure your PSP hasn't been muted in some way. There are many different ways you can mute your PSP headset depending on which headset you own. Some PSP headsets come with a remote with a "Mute" button. Press the button once to mute the headset and then again to unmute it. Other headsets come with a volume control built into the unit's cable. Make sure the volume on this cable hasn't been turned all the way down, which would mute your headset during regular use.
