Raise the volume by pressing the "Vol +" key. If you accidentally set the volume to zero, you won't be able to hear any sound.
Press the "Sound" button, which has a music note on it, to the right of the "PSP" logo on the bottom front of the console to clear the mute setting.
Adjust the Automatic Volume Limiter System, or AVLS. Turn on the PSP. Select "Settings," and then select "Sound Settings." Select "AVLS" and confirm that this featured is turned off or press the "Vol +" key to move the maximum volume setting up by adjusting the volume level on the same screen.
Adjust the UMD video volume settings. Select "Settings" and then "Sound Settings." Select "UMD Video Volume." Select either "Normal," "+1" or "+2" to adjust the setting.
Connect a pair of headphones or speakers into another system or computer, if using headphones or speakers with your PSP. Play a music or video to verify that you can hear sound using that system. If you can hear sound, the problem is not your speakers but the PSP.
Move the PSP into an environment where there aren't strong vibrations, strong magnetic objects such as TVs or lots of background noise.
Restore the PSP's default settings. Select the "Settings" menu from the PSP home screen. Choose "System Settings" and "Restore Default Settings." Select "Yes" when asked if you want to restore the default settings. Press "Yes" again to confirm your selection. The system will restore itself and the password will be reset to "0000." Press the "X" button to restart your system once the system is restored.
