How to Convert Video to Be Compatible with PSP

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) only plays MP4 video files. This means that in order to play them you need to convert your videos that are not in this format using computer software. There are many programs that can do this for free or can give you a free trial so that you can at least try them out. These three programs convert your videos to MP4 efficiently and at a low cost.

Things You'll Need

  • PSP Video 9
  • Free iPod video converter
  • 4Media video converter
  • PSP memory stick

Instructions

    • 1

Download one of the three video converting programs; they all work in basically the same manner. Double click the downloaded file to install it onto your computer.

    • 2

Open the program you installed and click the "Add file" or "+" button to open a new window. Select the video file you want to convert and click "OK" to load it into the program. If you are using 4Media, click the "Profile" button and click "MP4" as the output. The other two programs do this automatically.

    • 3

Click the "Output Folder" button on the program menu to open another new window. Select a place to save the new PSP video and click "OK."

    • 4

Click the "Convert," "Start" or "OK" button to begin the conversion process of the video. Insert your PSP's memory stick into your computer's card reader and drag the newly created video file into the "VIDEO" folder on the PSP memory stick.

Remove the PSP memory stick from the computer and reinsert it into the PSP. Select the video from the PSP menu's video section to play it.
