How to Use PSP eBook Creator

With bookstores, online retailers, and even libraries offering e-books alongside their paper counterparts, the big question for many consumers now is which e-reader to use. If you have a PSP (PlayStation Portable), you may not have to look into getting a new e-reader at all; using the free PSP eBook Creator software, you can convert text (.txt) files into images, effectively creating PSP-compatible e-books. With a handful of nifty features, it can turn your PSP into a respectable device for reading on the go.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install PSP eBook Creator on your computer (see Resources). PSP eBook Creator runs on Windows XP -- it has not been officially tested on later versions of Windows.

    • 2

Convert your document to a text file. If you're using a Word document, select "File," then "Save As," and select text file from the file type drop-down menu within the save dialog. You can also copy text from Web pages and documents, and paste it into a program like Notepad, which saves in .txt format by default.

    • 3

Open PSP eBook Creator, and select "File," then "Load text (source) file." Navigate to where you've saved your text file, and select it.

    • 4

Click "File," then "Select output folder" to choose where the program saves your PSP-ready e-book file. Best to choose a location that is easy to access and remember.

    • 5

Customize the settings for your e-book in the main program window. You can choose to have the book display in landscape or portrait views, select a background color, text color, font size and font face. You must also enter the book's title and author.

    • 6

Preview your e-book by clicking "Actions," then "1:1 Preview" to see exactly how it will look on the PSP.

    • 7

Name your e-book file, but do not include a file extension; the program adds those during conversion.

    • 8

Click "Build e-book" to begin the conversion process. The program displays the progress of the conversion.
