How to Install a PSP GPS 290

The Sony PSP hand-held video game system is host to a large library of original games such as "God of War: Chains of Olympus" and "Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories," and legacy titles from the original PlayStation such as "Final Fantasy VII" and "Crash Bandicoot." However, there's other uses for the console as well. Using Sony's GPS-290 accessory, the PSP can be turned into a GPS receiver, allowing certain games and apps to locate your position on a satellite map in real-time.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PSP and open the game tray. Insert the game disc for a GPS-compatible game or application, such as "Homestar Portable" or "MapThis" then close the tray.

    • 2

Fit the GPS-290 receiver into the USB port along the top of the PSP console. Affix the receiver by hand-turning the large screws on either side of the retractable panel. Leave the screws loose as the receiver is not meant to be permanently mounted to the console.

    • 3

Flip the retractable panel of the GPS-290 out so that when you're holding the PSP at a comfortable angle, the flat surface reading "GPS" is pointed directly upward.

    • 4

Select "Game" from the main menu of your PSP's home screen. Scroll down to the menu entry for your GPS-290 compatible game or app and press "X" to launch the software.
