How to Install PSP Software Games

The Sony PSP is a handheld gaming device that plays games, movies and music. You can also download other applications to the PSP, such as television programs and maps. Games for the PSP can be expensive and sometimes hard to find. Downloading games from the Internet from reputable sites can be cheaper, and can be done in a few steps.

  Download a PSP game from the Sony PlayStation Store or another reputable site. Save the download file to your desktop. Right-click the file and click "Extract" when it finishes downloading. This extracts the files in the folder to wherever you want on your computer, such as the desktop.

  Insert the memory stick pro duo in the memory card slot on the left side of your PSP. Once you have the memory stick inserted, turn the PSP on. Insert the USB cable to your PSP and connect the other end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer. A USB port is rectangular in size. Your computer will automatically detect the memory stick in the PSP.

  Scroll down to "USB Connection" on your PSP main screen and press the "X" button. Press the "Home" button at the bottom of the PSP and scroll to "Settings." Select "USB mode."

  Plug your PSP into a wall outlet. On your computer click "Start" and then click "Computer." Click the PSP drive under "Removal Storage." Click the "GAME" folder. If there is no GAME folder, right-click on a blank area, select "New Folder" and name the folder "GAME." Click the "UPDATE" folder. If there is no UPDATE folder, right-click on a blank area, select "New Folder" and name the folder "UPDATE."

  Disconnect the PSP from the computer and navigate to the game application on the PSP memory stick. It is located on the PSP home menu in the game section and is named "Update." Click "Update" and the software will automatically install. When it is finished, go to the main menu of your PSP and locate the "GAME" option to find the downloaded game. Remove the memory stick.
