How to Access Your Computer Directly From Your PSP

If you have ever wanted to control your PC from another room in your home in order to browse or transfer files or even change the MP3 playing on the computer, you can do so if you have a Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP). If your PSP is a newer model with a wireless connection, you can use the unit to access your computer from a few feet away or even down the hall.

      Connect the small end of the USB cable to the PSP. Connect the other end to the PC. Wait for Windows to detect the PSP and configure it as an external drive on your computer. Click "Start" then "Computer." Click the drive letter assigned to the PlayStation Portable memory stick to view files and folders on the PSP.

      Download and the free PSP VNC application from the PSP HomeBrew website. Save the application to your computer. Navigate to the folder where you saved the PSP VNC file. Right-click the downloaded file, then click "Copy" on the pop-up menu.

      Open "Computer" or "Windows Explorer." Double click the PSP memory stick drive letter to open the storage device and view its contents. Navigate to the "Game" folder on the memory stick and open it. Right-click anywhere inside the folder window, then click "Paste" on the pop-up menu.

      Disconnect the USB cable from the PSP and the computer.

      Download the TightVNC program from the TightVNC.com website, and then save it to your computer. Double-click the downloaded file, then follow the on-screen prompts to install TightVNC on your PC. Reboot your PC if prompted to do so.

      Launch the TightVNC application on your PC. Create a username and password to use for connections from the PSP to the computer. Click the "OK" button to start the application in "Stand By" mode. The TightVNC application is ready to accept connections from the PSP. Click the VNC icon in the system tray, then record the computer's IP address listed by the application.

      Select "Games" from the PSP menu. Scroll to the "VNC Viewer" option. Enter the IP address from the computer, then press the "X" button.

      Select "Windows" from the list of available operating system options. Press the "X" button.

      Use the PSP on-screen keyboard to enter the username and password you set up earlier on the PC. Press the "X" button. The PSP displays the computer display on the screen. Use the arrow keys to move the screen. Use the "X" button to perform mouse clicks.
