Instructions for Playing the Drums on Guitar Hero

The Guitar Hero video game series provides a playable rock band simulation for up to four players. Gamers can play the guitar, bass, vocals and drum parts of various rock songs from different time periods and genres. The drum peripheral (controller) acts much like real drums; it is played with two drum sticks as you bang away at the colored pads in an attempt to rack up points.

Instructions

  1. Getting Set Up

    • 1

Set up your "Guitar Hero" drum peripheral so you are comfortable while you're playing. Use a stool or chair that won't hinder your mobility and will provide you with adequate height.

    • 2

Adjust the height of the drum peripheral stand if you need better reach.

    • 3

Adjust the yellow and orange pad heights for adequate reach while playing.

    • 4

Place the "bass pedal" where you'll be able to reach it comfortably.

    • 5

Check your drum sticks; make sure they are in working condition and not cracked or chipped.

    Playing the Drums

    • 6

Use the buttons and the directional pad, found between the yellow and orange pads, to navigate through the game's menus, select songs and choose options.

    • 7

Hit the appropriate colored pad(s) with your drum sticks when the same colored button(s) scrolls down the screen. For example, when the red button scrolls to the bottom of the screen, hit the red pad to score points. When red and yellow buttons scroll to the bottom of the screen at the same time, you must hit both the red and yellow pads at the same time.

    • 8

Push the "bass pedal" with your foot when the purple bar scrolls down your screen. When a colored button(s) appears within the purple bar, you must hit the coinciding colored pad(s) and also push the "bass pedal."

    • 9

Hit the yellow and orange pads at the same time during game play to activate Star Power when you acquire the ability.

    • 10

Hit notes in succession to accumulate more points and advance game play. If you miss too many notes, you'll get a low score or lose the round.
