How to Connect a Guitar Hero Guitar to Rock Band

The Guitar Hero and Rockband games, and their accessories, have revolutionized home video gaming. The ability to rock in the virtual universe can be a fun challenge, but the two dueling worlds of Guitar Hero and Rockband could cause some rockers to scratch their heads as to whether they'll be able to play Rockband with their Guitar Hero guitars.

  1. Getting Started

      Organize your gaming area for maximum comfortability and mobility during gameplay as this can help in your playing, and make the experience more enjoyable.

      Make sure your video game system is properly connected to your television, double check your AV cable connection, and/or HDMI cable connection if you use one.

      Put your Rockband game into your video game system, and let it load. Loading may take a few minutes.

    Connecting Your Wired Guitar Hero Guitar

      Straighten the Guitar Hero guitar peripheral's (controller) cord so that you can get maximum length while playing, and also unkinks your cord to avoid any tears in the wire covering, and/or problems with the controller.

      Connect the wired USB connector into the video game system's USB port.

      Select the Options in the start menu, and go into the controller options. Set the calibration and whether you want the controller to be lefty-flipped, meaning if you'd prefer the buttons that scroll during gameplay to be switched around for left-handed playing.

      Test the buttons in the Tutorial to make sure you're comfortable with the controls.

    Connecting Your Wireless Guitar Hero Guitar

      Connect your wireless controllers to your XBOX 360 by pushing, and holding the sync buttons on the controller, found on the base of the controller near the start and select buttons, and system, found near the on button, until they are calibrated, you'll know this has worked once the spinning green circles on your system and controller blink and stop.

      Connect the USB dongle that comes with your wireless PS2 or PS3 controller, into the USB port on your video game system. A red light on the dongle will blink. While this light blinks, turn on your controller, switch found on the bottom of the controller, and push the dongle button again, the light next to the switch will turn red. This means the dongle and controller are now calibrated.

      Connect the Wii remote into the Guitar Hero guitar shell, remove the cover from the port. There will be a connector in the port that you plug into the bottom of the remote, this is the same port you'd plug your Wii nunchuck into. Replace the cover.
