How to Charge Xbox Accessories on Your Computer

The Xbox 360 console uses standard USB ports for recharging game accessories such as wireless controllers and headsets. If you find it inconvenient to charge your accessory on the gaming console, you can just as easily charge the device on any personal computer with a USB port. This cross-compatibility is possible due to the USB standard, which was designed to work the same on any type of electronic device.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the smaller end of the recharging cable that came with your accessory into the device's power input port. If you have the Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit for a wireless controller, insert the rechargeable battery pack into the controller's battery compartment, and then push it in to lock it.

    • 2

Insert the other end of the charging cable into a USB port on the back of your computer. The USB ports in the back of the computer are designed for recharging devices, while the USB ports in front may provide less power and take longer to charge the device. On a laptop where the USB ports are on the side, check your computer documentation to find the location of the charging ports, or just try a new one each time to see which one charges the fastest.

    • 3

Power on the computer if it's not already on. Generally, USB ports won't provide a charge unless the computer is on, although some newer computer models have one USB port that stays hot even when the power is off.

    • 4

Wait until the LEDs on the accessory indicate that the device is fully charged, and then detach the cables. If you're using the Play & Charge Kit with a wireless controller, for example, the battery pack is fully charged when the light turns green or switches off. Check the instructions to find out LED signals for other devices.
