WiFi Max Will Not Recognize USB Dongle

The WiFi Max gaming accessory from Datel connects to your Internet-enabled computer, giving your video game consoles an access point to get online wirelessly. If your computer does not recognize the WiFi Max dongle when you connect it, you may need to update its drivers or change the settings in the Windows Device Manager.
  1. Proper Setup

    • If you used a previous version of the WiFi Max, you need to uninstall the ZDWlan software for it before you can use the new ZyDas software and USB dongle. Do not connect the WiFi Max dongle to the computer until after you install the ZyDas software. If you connect the dongle before installing the software, your computer will not recognize the device. Also, if your computer may not recognize the dongle if it uses a dial-up Internet connection. WiFi Max is only compatible with a high-speed Internet connection.

    Update Drivers

    • The WiFi Max dongle comes with a software CD that includes drivers, but those drivers may now be out of date. Generally, you need to update the drivers if your computer runs Windows Vista or Windows 7. The Codejunkies website offers the latest drivers for your WiFi Max dongle. Updating the drivers may allow your computer to find the USB dongle. To update, go to the Codejunkies website and access the Technical Support page.

    Docking Station

    • The WiFi Max package includes a docking station that makes it easier for you to connect the dongle to the computer. It is difficult to properly connect the dongle to the computer directly because of its large size. Datel recommends that you use the included docking station for proper connection. If you are using the docking station, connect it to a USB port on the back of your computer rather than a port on the front or a low-powered USB hub.

    Device Manager Settings

    • The Windows Device Manager lets you see and control the settings of all devices connected to your computer. Access the Device Manager and look at the icon next to the WiFi Max device. If the icon shows a yellow question mark, the dongle is listed as an unknown device. Double-click the icon and update the driver if you have not yet done so. Select the "Install from a list or specific location" option, and then click "Search removable media" and "Browse." Select the folder "C:\Program Files\ZyDAS Technology Corportation\ZyDAS_802.11g_Utility\InsDrvTemp_USB." Proper Device Manager settings allow the ZyDAS software to recognize the dongle.
