Purpose
The Splitfish FragFX Barracuda and FragFX V2 are both designed for playing first-person shooter games in the same way you would play similar games on a computer. Both devices do this by employing a separated two-handed design where a player holds the unit̵7;s mouse in his right hand and a baton-like grip controller in his left hand. The two devices are hardwired together and work in conjunction on-screen.
Design
The optical mouse portion of both control setups features four standard PlayStation buttons in the thumb rest area of the mouse, while the Select and Start buttons are located where a user would hold his middle finger. The mice are shaped slightly differently, with the FragFX slightly more angular toward the front and the Barracuda more rounded.
Both grip controllers are nearly identical to the Nintendo Wii baton, featuring built-in analog joysticks on top, four-direction D-pads, sensitivity dials, Frag buttons, and right and left bumper buttons.
Features
Both controllers feature Splitfish̵7;s Frevolution System, programmable motion overrides, complete Sixaxis support, precision adjustable Frag button control and fully-customizable rapid fire settings. The FragFX Barracuda also has customizable button mapping and on-the-fly sensitivity controls. Both devices connect to your PlayStation 3 via a USB jack. The mouse and grip controller cables for the FragFX V2 and FragFX Barracuda combine to let you sit or stand up to 10 feet from your PlayStation 3.
Pricing and Additional Information
You can purchase the FragFX Barracuda directly from Splitfish for around $70. The FragFX V2 had a list price of around $80, but the device has been discontinued as of February 2012. Splitfish shipped both controller setups bundled with a rigid plastic mouse pad. You can also use the FragFX Barracuda and FragFX V2 with a traditional computer, provided the computer has an available USB port and supports third-party game controllers.
