Will an EyeToy Work on Skype?

The EyeToy is a digital camera accessory that was designed to capture and integrate a gamer̵7;s voice and motions in a PlayStation 2 game. In addition to using it on the gaming console, you can use it as a webcam on a PC. A variety of developers offer drivers for each EyeToy model. Once you install the appropriate driver, you can configure the device with Skype and begin chatting with friends.

EyeToy Drivers
- Each EyeToy model requires a specific PC driver. Determine whether the device is manufactured by Logitech or Namtai. Download and install the EyeToy driver. After installing the driver, open the Control Panel and select ̶0;Device Manger̶1; from the ̶0;Hardware and Sound̶1; menu. The driver will be listed in the ̶0;Sound, video and game controllers̶1; menu. Right-click the driver and select the ̶0;Update Driver̶1; option and follow the prompts to finish the installation process.
Configure Video Settings
- If you don̵7;t have Skype on your PC, download and install the program. Sign in to your account when the installation process is complete. Before using the EyeToy with Skype, you will need to configure the application̵7;s video settings. Click the ̶0;Tools̶1; tab and select ̶0;Options.̶1; Select the ̶0;Video Settings̶1; option on the left side of the ̶0;Options̶1; window. Click the ̶0;Select Webcam̶1; drop-down menu and select the EyeToy. After a few seconds, your live image will appear on the screen. Click the ̶0;Save̶1; button to save the video settings.
Test Sound
- Make sure the built-in microphone in your EyeToy is configured properly with Skype. Click the ̶0;Tools̶1; tab and select ̶0;Options.̶1; Select ̶0;Audio Settings̶1; from the ̶0;Options̶1; menu. Click the ̶0;Microphone̶1; drop-down menu and select the EyeToy microphone. After configuring the audio settings, you can perform a sound test. Select the ̶0;Echo/Sound Test Service̶1; option from the ̶0;Contacts̶1; pane, and then click the green ̶0;Call̶1; button. You will be asked to record a brief message. Once you hear the beep, begin speaking. When you̵7;re finished recording, Skype will play back the sound recording automatically.
Troubleshooting
- Since EyeToy drivers are created by third-party developers, Sony cannot guarantee compatibility with your PC. If you̵7;re unable to view your live image, make sure you installed the correct EyeToy driver. If you have video, but are experiencing audio issues, check the input volume on the computer. To check the input volume, right-click the speaker icon in the Windows taskbar and select the ̶0;Recording Devices̶1; option. Select the EyeToy microphone and click the ̶0;Properties̶1; button. Click the ̶0;Levels̶1; tab and use the ̶0;Microphone̶1; slider bar to increase the input volume of the microphone.
