How to Get 'Rock Band' to Work With Drums Using a Hard Drive

Released in 2007, the music simulation and rhythm game "Rock Band" allows you to play your favorite songs as a guitarist, bassist, drummer, or singer. For the most accurate experience, the game requires expensive special controllers designed to mimic each instrument. The drums, for example, are plastic but contain sensors that react as you strike them in accordance with the on-screen instructions. As you play the game and master your drumming skills, you can opt to save your progress, scores and achievements to your game console's hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your hard drive to the hard drive expansion slot on your console if necessary. Fortunately, most consoles come with hard drives built in and don't require this extra step.

    • 2

Plug your "Rock Band" drums into your console. If you have the full suite of "Rock Band" controllers, you may need to purchase a splitter or USB hub to add additional components. Check with your local game store to figure out what you need to purchase for your particular console.

    • 3

Start the game and select the profile you normally use for games. You can also create a new profile if you choose.

    • 4

Select your chosen game mode while sitting at the drums. By making the selections this way, the game automatically knows you intend to play the drums. The green pad confirms a decision, while the red pad cancels your last entry. You can make menu selections with the small directional pad on the drum frame.

Choose "hard drive" when prompted for a storage medium. Alternatively, you can select a portable memory card.
