How to Center a Logitech Joystick

Logitech's computer joysticks are complex devices. They detect the direction and the distance of their movements. Because of the complexity of these movements, your computer must calibrate each individual Logitech joystick, so it knows where the center and extremes of its movement are. This provides more accurate control of your games. Calibrating the Logitech joystick's movements is known as "centering," and it's one of the most important aspects of setting up your joystick.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the joystick to your computer by plugging it into a USB port. If required, insert the disk that is bundled with the joystick and follow the on-screen instructions to install its driver. However, most joysticks should automatically be recognized by your computer as a game controller.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button followed by "Control Panel."

    • 3

Click the "Game Controllers" icon and make sure your joystick is listed. If it isn't, click the "Add" button in the upper left corner and select your make and model from the drop-down menus. You may be required to install the joystick's drivers from its disk during detection.

    • 4

Right-click your joystick in the "Game Controllers" section once it is listed. Select "Properties."

    • 5

Click the "Calibrate" button in the "Settings" tab. The calibration process is automatic. Follow the on-screen instructions, rotating the joystick and pressing the buttons when prompted by your computer.

    • 6

Click the "Finish" button to save the calibration data once the centering and testing phases have completed.

    • 7

Move the joystick and watch the cross hairs in the "Test" tab to check that calibration was successful. The cross hairs should reach the edges of the box when the joystick is moved to its furthest positions, then return to the center when you let go of the stick.
