How to Make a Wii Zapper Out of Cardboard

The Nintendo Wii remote works in different ways depending on the demands of the game or program being played. With the Wii remote aiming directly at the Wii Sensor Bar, the B button becomes a trigger, making games like "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops" more interactive. To really immerse yourself in the action, create your own cardboard frame to hold the Wii remote, providing you with a realistic gaming experience.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardboard
  • Paper Wii gun outline
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Glue (Optional)
  • Paint (Optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Download and print "Paper Wii gun" for an initial template. Cut along the black lines of both diagrams. Cut the inner rectangles too so that the Wii remote's sensor will function correctly.

    • 2

Tape the paper templates onto flat cardboard. Use tape to position the templates securely and cut around the outline so you are left with two cardboard shapes. Ensure that you cut out the rectangular holes into the cardboard. This will be the frame of your Wii zapper.

    • 3

Score along the gray dotted lines and fold inward. The two cardboard pieces will begin to take shape. The top piece will be the horizontal barrel of the gun that will hold the Wii remote in place. The bottom piece will be the handle.

    • 4

Glue or tape the parts into place by attaching the small flaps to the insides of the longer edges. It is a good idea to keep the Wii remote at hand so you can make sure it comfortably fits into position with each step.

    • 5

Attach the two pieces together. Position the handle so that it fits with your hand and make sure you can reach the trigger comfortably. Glue or tape it in place. You may find it holds better if you hook the inner flap through the central gap where the trigger should be and then tape it down along the inside where the Wii remote would sit.

    • 6

Add extra security by taping any weak points into place. This will strengthen the frame and give you a sturdier Wii zapper. Do not tape over any holes. Use paint or thin colored paper if you wish to personalize the frame.

    • 7

Thread the wrist strap through the back of your Wii zapper and place the Wii remote in place. You can attach the nunchuk accessory through the hole in the back. Now, load up your favorite shooting game and make the most of your homemade cardboard Wii zapper.
