Unreal Tournament 3 Hoverboard Tricks

The hoverboard is a new addition for the third instalment of the Unreal Tournament series. This addition increased the speed of your playable character by 150%, as well as allowing him to showboat into battle with a clutch of tricks and jumps. However, the hoverboard's exposed nature meant that it afforded little protection for the rider, making crossing exposed terrain dangerous.
  1. Hoverboard

    • The hoverboard is available in any of the vehicle-based game modes. They are technically a vehicle but allow the character to act as an individual entity, accessing areas that most vehicles would not be able to access. Pressing the primary fire button when not in melee mode unleashes a grappling line. This allows you to latch on to objects, including vehicles, which will give you a free ride. Despite the gravity-defying power of the hoverboard, a long descent while riding one will still cause you to take damage and die.

    Trick Mode

    • Once you are on board the hoverboard, enter trick mode to be able to do one of the three tricks the character is capable of doing on a hoverboard. To enter trick mode, get into a crouching position. This is done by holding the downwards directional button. Once in position, press the button to switch your attacking position to melee. This allows you to initiate the three main hoverboard tricks.

    Spin

    • While in trick mode, continue to hold your crouch. Release the crouch button and instantly press and hold the left or right directional button to jump and rotate the board in either the left or right direction. Landing with the board pointing in the direction your going is the ideal, as this allows you to ride out of the spin without losing speed. Any other angle and you will decelerate while the board sorts itself out.

    Air Tricks

    • When in the air and in trick mode, press the primary fire button to pull an air trick. This will make you do a barrel roll in the air where the character ducks down and rolls in the air, bringing the board around 360 degrees and back into position below him. Another air trick calls for pressing the secondary fire button; this makes the character raise his legs in a tuck and lean over to grab the edge of his board. Repeat these tricks by holding one of the fire buttons for a prolonged amount of time. Leave enough time to complete the final trick of the sequence; a semi-completed trick will cause you to fall and drop whatever you are carrying.
