How to Make an Autofire PS3 Controller

Autofire controllers make it possible to hold a button down to achieve the result you could only obtain through rapid button pushes. Anyone who has played a video game level that requires rapid button pushing knows that doing so tires out your hands quickly. The ability to achieve the same result by holding a single button down makes game play easier. To make an autofire controller, you need to add a special chip. Installing the chip only requires household tools and is completed without manipulating any existing wires or soldering.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the five screws on the back of the controller. There are three screws located in the left, center and right of the top row and two screws located on the left and right of the bottom row. Place the screws inside a zip-top plastic bag and zip the top shut for safekeeping.

    • 2

Flip the controller around so the bottom is facing you. Press down on the center clip and pull the two shells of the controller apart. Set the top shell, the side with the buttons, aside. Position the bottom shell so the electrical components are facing you.

    • 3

Unclip the battery from the top of the electrical compartment. Once the battery is removed you will see the motherboard and the "IC Chip."

    • 4

Plug the ribbon from the "Intensifire" into the "Player 3" and "Player 4" slots located at the top right of the motherboard. Remove the plastic covering the sticky side of the "Intensifire Chip" and place the "Intensifire Chip" on top of the "IC Chip."

    • 5

Clip the battery back into place over the "Intensifire Chip," clip the two shells of the controller together, insert and tighten the five screws into the back of the controller.
