How to Fix Air Bubbles in Rock Band 2

"Rock Band 2" features a sturdier set of instrument controllers than the previous installment in the popular video game series. The drum controller, however, has a tendency to develop small air pockets underneath the rubber drum heads due to normal wear and tear. The adhesive that is used to mount the rubber pad to the drum head base deteriorates due to friction. Rock Band Support offers an accessory repair service, but the air bubble issue can be remedied by using a quick and simple alternative.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the defective rubber drum pad from the drum controller by prying the pad away from the plastic housing and pulling upwards. Be careful not to pull the electric wiring while removing the drum pad.

    • 2

Unplug the wiring from the plastic housing by gently pulling on the connector plug.

    • 3

Remove the six Phillips head screws from the underside of the drum pad.

    • 4

Separate the top of the rubber pad from base of the drum head. Pull gently in a circular pattern to avoid ripping or stretching the rubber.

    • 5

Remove the remaining adhesive from the back of the rubber drum pad. Rub the pad gently using the palm of your hand or a dry cloth for the best results.

    • 6

Place the rubber drum pad face down on a flat surface in an outdoor area. Following the directions on the can, coat the back of the pad using rubber spray adhesive.

    • 7

Attach the rubber pad to the plastic drum housing while the adhesive is still wet, being careful not to cover up the six screw holes on the underside of the pad.

    • 8

Wait for five minutes for the adhesive to dry. Reinsert the wiring connector plug into the plastic housing and replace the six screws on the bottom of the drum pad.

    • 9

Reattach the drum head to the controller base by lining up the four pegs on the pad with the four slots on the base. Gently apply pressure on the pad until it snaps into place.
