How to Connect a MIDI Pro Adapter to a PS3

"Rock Band 3" by Harmonix is a music game in which players use purpose-made MIDI controllers to play along with famous songs, completing various speed and memorization challenges to win points. Formerly, it was not possible to use any but the purpose-made MIDI controllers to play the game. In 2010, however, Mad Catz released the MIDI Pro-Adapter for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles. With this device, players are able to connect and use almost any standard MIDI controller in "Rock Band 3."

Standard MIDI cable

Instructions

  Connect one end of the standard MIDI cable to the port labeled "MIDI IN" on the left side of the MIDI Pro-Adapter.

  Connect the other end of the MIDI cable to the "MIDI OUT" port on the MIDI controller device you want to use. The MIDI Pro-Adapter documentation includes a list of devices tested to be fully compatible, but most standard MIDI controllers will work.

  Connect the MIDI Pro-Adapter's USB cable to an available USB port on the front of the PlayStation 3. You are now ready to use the MIDI Pro-Adapter with "Rock Band 3."
