How to Use a Mic on a PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) multimedia console allows players to view and share photo files, listen to music, download games and themes, browse the Internet and play video games online with friends or strangers. If you would like to communicate with your friends on the PS3, all you need is a PS3-compatible microphone device. By plugging in the universal serial bus (USB) connector cable and adjusting a few audio settings, you can make your voice be heard over the PlayStation Network (PSN) within minutes.

  Insert the PS3-compatible microphone USB cable into the USB port on the front of the PlayStation 3 console. Power on your PS3 console.

  Scroll to the "Settings" icon in the far, right corner of the XMB menu bar. Once the icon is highlighted, scroll down to the "Accessory Setting" option and press the "X" button on your PS3 controller.

  Navigate to the "Audio Device Settings," then select the "Input Settings" option. Wait for a few seconds for your PS3 console to recognize the external USB microphone device.

  Select the "USB Microphone" option and press the "X" button on your PS3 controller. After a successful connection has been established, return to the main menu by pressing the "O" button three times on your controller.

  Begin the game and begin communicating with other players. The PS3 console and the game will automatically recognize your USB microphone as an audio receiving device and allow you to speak through it.
