What Batteries Does a V.Smile Cyber Pocket Take?

The "VTech V.Smile Cyber Pocket" is a hand-held video game system designed to help educate children while keeping them entertained. It is portable without an AV adapter to power it, making it useful for card rides. However, there are a few battery options that you should keep in mind before buying the unit.
  1. Battery Type

    • The "VTech V.Smile Cyber Pocket" uses four AA batteries. The brand of the battery doesn't matter. These will provide your "Cyber Pocket" with 10 hours or so of continuous game playing. Your battery life will vary depending on the battery you purchase. There is no guide for which battery works best with your system, so you may have to experiment with brands until you find one that you prefer using.

    Battery Installation

    • Turn off the game before installing any batteries. You are unlikely to receive a shock with the unit on but it is still a possibility. Turn the unit onto its back and find the sliding battery cover. This simply slides into place and doesn't require a screwdriver to remove. Slide it off with your thumb and place it somewhere you won't lose it. Place your batteries in the unit one at a time, making sure to place the negatives and the positives in the correct position. The spring on either side is always the negative so use that as a guide as you install your batteries. Slide the battery cover back into place and turn over the unit. Turn it on to double check battery placement. Repeat the process if it doesn't activate immediately.

    Rechargeable Battery Pack

    • VTech also sells a rechargeable battery pack for the "V.Smile Cyber Pocket." This battery pack comes with a recharging dock, a 4.8 volt rechargeable battery pack, a 9 volt AC/DC adapter and a user's manual. The battery is charged by the charger when it is plugged into the wall. You can then take the battery out and install it into your "Cyber Pocket." It should give you 10 or so hours of continuous game play. The number varies depending on the age of your battery as well as the age of your unit. Make sure you let the battery drain completely before recharging, as recharging will shorten the battery's span.

    Installation

    • Turn off the unit and turn it to the back. Remove the battery cover using your thumb. Remove any double AA batteries that may be installed. The "Cyber Pocket" battery pack must be empty if you want to use the rechargeable battery pack. Place the rechargeable battery into the slot with the rounded end on the bottom. The flat side should be on the top of the battery pack. Push it gently until it snaps into place and put the battery cover back into place. Turn on the unit to see if you installed the battery pack correctly. Adjust it if necessary.
