How to Hook Up Guitar Hero to Surround Sound

No matter which version you have, the only way to connect your "Guitar Hero" game to your surround sound system is to connect through your console. There are a variety of "Guitar Hero" titles for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 and each console uses its own cables for audio and visual output -- although the ends that connect to the actual surround sound system are always the same size, shape and color. Later generation consoles are also compatible with HDMI cables.

Determine what kind of cable you are going to need to connect your console to your surround sound system. If you are playing any of the "Guitar Hero" games for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, use an HDMI cable or component cable. For the Wii or PlayStation 2, you can only use component cables.

Connect the appropriate cable to the back of your console. If using an HDMI cable, the PS3 and Xbox 360 have ports labeled HDMI. All four consoles have "A/V Output" ports that you can use for component cables.

Connect the opposite ends of the cables to your surround sound device. If using HDMI, this is as simple as plugging the cable into the surround sound device's "HDMI IN" port. If you are using component cables, you will notice that the ends of the cables are all different colors. If your surround sound system is color coded, plug the ends into the matching color ports. Otherwise, you have to consult your video game console's manual to see which color corresponds to which speaker input. The video cable, typically the yellow one, must be connected to a "Video In" port on your TV.

Load your "Guitar Hero" game into your console, power it on and turn on your TV and surround sound system.
