How to Design Your Own Guitar Controller

Video games like "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" use plastic controllers in the shape of a guitar to control the action. But fans of the guitar-game genre often like to personalize their controllers by designing their own guitars. Most controllers come with a set of stickers, but there's little variety from pack to pack. It's relatively easy to bring your ideas to life, and to add a little bit of your own personality, using online programs to design a new "skin" for your stock controller. With a few quick steps and a little creativity, your guitar will be the envy of fellow gamers.

Instructions

  1. Designing Your Own Guitar Controller

    • 1

Look at the markings on the back of your guitar controller to determine what kind it is. The make and model should be clearly listed on a sticker.

    • 2

Visit an online design site such as Axe Wraps or Unique Skins.

    • 3
Use online programs to design your custom guitar controller.

Use the software on the site to design a custom skin, a sticker that fits over the face of your controller, or upload your own images to place on the skin. A site such as Axe Wraps allows users to browse pre-loaded images by theme. Themes include abstract art, camouflage, digital art, flags and solid colors. Guitar picks can also be wrapped with a matching sticker to complete the custom look. Unique Skins also has many available base themes, but the site allows you to add custom text and photos to the skin.

    • 4

Purchase the completed skin and have it shipped to your house.

    • 5

Slowly peel away the custom skin from its backing and position the sticker over the face of your guitar controller. When straight, press firmly across the face of the guitar to adhere the sticker.
