Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the screws in the back of a Guitar Hero 3 controller with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 2

      Remove the back cover.

    • 3

Locate the area on the inside of the controller just behind the whammy bar. It consists of a bracket with a spring and a potentiometer with three wires colored red, orange and brown running from it to the motherboard.

    • 4

Locate the arm of the whammy bar. It is held in place between the potentiometer and the spring-loaded mechanism by an E-clip.

    • 5

Pop off the E-clip with a standard screwdriver. Be careful to collect the E-clip, as it can fly off during removal.

    • 6

Remove the whammy bar from the front of the controller.

    • 7

Wrap the portion of the whammy bar that sits inside the controller with a few layers of Teflon tape seal. This tape is normally used to seal the threads of plumbing fixtures and will help prevent the whammy bar from floating in its mount.

    • 8

Insert the taped whammy bar back into its hole in the front of the controller.

    • 9

Slide the E-clip into place over the arm of the whammy bar in its original position.

    • 10

Tighten down the screws holding the potentiometer next to the whammy bar arm in place with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 11

Replace the cover and screw all the screws back in place with a Phillips screwdriver.
