Things You'll Need
Instructions
Take a standard or Phillips screwdriver and remove all necessary screws to gain access to where the batteries power the drum's electronics. Remove the batteries before you complete this step to prevent any arcing or shorting.
Note which wires are going to the positive and the negative terminals of the battery holder, and write them down so you can properly connect the DC jack.
Take two pieces of wire and strip back the insulation at least 1/4 of an inch with the wire strippers. Using the correct tools for the job will to ensure that you do not injure yourself and that you do not damage the wrong tool.
Turn on your soldering iron and let it get to operating temperature, generally 650 to 750 degrees.
Find a location on the drum kit body near the battery holder that you will be able to drill through and mark it with a permanent marker.
Pick a drill bit that has the same or slightly larger diameter than your DC jack and drill a hole on the mark you made, ensuring you don't damage any of the electronics inside. Insert the jack into the hole and tighten the nut to secure it.
Take the soldering iron and lightly tin the two connections on the battery holder and the two connections on the jack. While holding the soldering iron on the connector, touch the positive wire to the jack's center connector, making sure solder flows around it. Repeat this step for the other wire and connector. Trim these wire to length so they fit inside the drum set using wire cutters. Solder these two wires onto the battery holder, making sure the polarity is correct. Refer to your notes if you are unsure on the polarity of the wires. Wrap electrical tape around each connection to prevent shorts.
Cut the plug off the wall adapter and use wire strippers to strip back the two conductors 1/4 of an inch. Tin the wires and the connectors on the plug in preparation for attaching the wires. Use your multimeter and determine which wire is positive in respect to the other wire. Put the connector shell onto the wires before you solder them on. Solder the positive wire to the center connector on the plug. Repeat this for the other wire. Screw the connector shell onto the plug.
Plug the DC adapter into the wall and the DC jack you installed. Verify that your drum set operates properly before you close everything back up. When using the wall adapter, never put batteries into the drum set. This could cause the batteries to explode.
Remove the DC plug and close up the drum set. Install the screws in the reverse order you removed them and check the operation of the drum set again. If everything works then you are done. If not, open the drum set back up and check your wiring to make sure it did not get broken during installation.
