How to Troubleshoot the Rock Band Guitar Dongle

Always wanted to be a rock star, but never found the time? No problem! With games like Rock Band, you can live the dream from the comfort of your living room, jamming to your favorite tunes alone or with friends. But with any game heavy on the peripherals, there are often problems. So what do you do when your guitar controller just seems to be all rocked out? Try a few simple steps and you'll be back on the road, touring from Amsterdam to Boston.

Instructions

  1. Checking the Connections

    • 1

Check the instrument cable first if you are using a wired controller. You must firmly plug in wired instrument controllers. If the controller seems to have a good connection, but still won't work, try plugging the instrument in to another controller port.

    • 2

Repeat the above step with the USB dongle, if you are using wireless controllers with a USB attachment. Otherwise, move on to step three.

    • 3

Power down the console if step one did not fix the problem (or if you are using wireless controllers) and check all console connections and cables, including the cable plugged into the wall. If the console is not at full power, instruments may not work correctly.

    Syncing and Calibrating

    • 4

Re-sync the guitar controller before trying anything. Press the sync button on your guitar (consult the manual for your particular instrument for help with this, if necessary).

    • 5

Navigate to to "options" from the main menu, and from there select "calibration settings."

    • 6

Perform the onscreen tests to properly calibrate your instrument.
