The Quick Fix
Unplug the PS2 dance pad from the console. Place the PS2 dance pad upside down on the floor. Smooth out the bottom of the PS2 dance pad with the palm of your hand.
Turn the dance pad front side up and plug it back into the console. Try to play a song. Try the next step if the PS2 dance pad is still not working.
Unplug the PS2 dance pad from the console. Lift the dance pad by holding it by the plastic top piece and raising the bottom of the dance pad off the floor. Shake the dance pad gently.
Place the PS2 dance pad back on the floor. Plug the dance pad into the console. Try playing another song. Refer to the next section if the PS2 dance pad still does not work properly.
The Long Term Fix
Place the PS2 dance pad upside down on a flat surface. Remove all of the screws from the back of the plastic part at the top of the dance pad. You will need a very small screwdriver for this.
Remove the back cover of the plastic part. You will see the circuit board and 10 long black strips that run into the dance pad. These connect to each of the buttons and are called contacts. There is also one larger strip in the middle.
Cut a piece of foam so that it is longer than the circuit board and an inch wide. Place the foam so that it rests over the contacts at the bottom of the circuit board. Tape the foam down with the duct tape. Place one strip of the tape vertically in the middle of the foam, so that one end is taped to the circuit board and the other to the inside of the dance pad. This will hold the foam in place.
Cut another piece of foam the same size as the first. Gently pull the contacts below the circuit board so that they are flat and not bunched up. Hold the contacts tight. Tape the foam piece across the contacts you are holding and just below the circuit board.
Place the bottom of the plastic part back in place by lining up the holes for the screws. Screw the screws tightly back into place.
