How to Fix Guitar Hero on Tour Controller

Guitar Hero is a rhythm game that uses a guitar peripheral as the controller. Unfortunately, the Guitar Hero guitars can be fragile and easy to break. You could purchase a replacement controller, but these can be expensive. You could also send the controller back to the manufacturer if it is still under warranty, but that will leave you without a controller for several weeks. Luckily, there are a few steps you can try to repair your own Guitar Hero controller.

Instructions

Place your controller face down on your work surface. Use a screwdriver to remove all the screws from the back of the controller. Most guitars will use a Phillips head screwdriver; however, there are modified controllers that will require an Allen wrench. Use your fingers to separate the front and the back of the controller. Place the back piece aside.

    • 2

Unscrew the panel that holds the fret buttons in the neck of the guitar. Remove the panel and set it aside. Also remove the rubbery pad that covers the buttons.

    • 3

Remove the fret buttons and clean them. Use a dry, clean cotton swab to clean around the edges of the buttons to remove any debris. If you notice that there are pieces of plastic sticking off the side of the buttons, remove them with a pair of pliers. The edges of the buttons should all be smooth.

Replace the cleaned buttons in their original color sequence. Place the rubber backing on top of the buttons. Replace the panel and screw it back in place.

Replace the back of the controller and its screws.
