Things You'll Need
Instructions
Disconnect the guitar controller you wish to dismantle. Unplug it from the gaming console.
Place the guitar face down on a flat working surface. To avoid scratches or more serious damage, put a soft cloth or a towel underneath the guitar while you work.
Remove all the screws from the back panel of the "Rock Band" guitar with a small Phillips screwdriver. Note that there are usually 16 screws in the back, but the number depends on the guitar model and the "Rock Band" game edition.
Put all the screws in one place, so you don't lose or misplace them. There are three screw sizes, so be careful when putting them back by matching a hole with the correct size screw.
Check whether there are any screws left to remove. Other than the guitar's rear panel, there are a few screws near the guitar neck and behind the strum bar. Depending on the version of the console, the actual number and the location of the screws is slightly different.
Use your hands to carefully and gently loosen the back panel of the guitar. Do not pull or pry off the panel too aggressively.
Remove the back panel of the guitar from the front panel by wiggling it. At this point, your "Rock Band" guitar is dismantled. All the commands, wires and switches inside the guitar are now accessible.
Press the metal release tab inside the guitar to remove the headstock.
